Through first-person testimony filmed in Nepal, Volunteers Needed The Film powerfully reveals The Orphan Trap - the cycle of orphanage trafficking and voluntourism where well-meaning volunteers and donors create demand that funds a multi-billion-dollar industry that commodifies children.

Of the 5,000,000 children living in orphanages it's estimated that a full 80% have at least one living parent. This film shows how the desire to help often separates children from their families.

Join us for a screening of Volunteers Needed, followed by a Q&A panel with director Barak Laub and socioecology scientist Dr. Kate Thompson. At Stony Brook University. Located at the Stony Brook University Ballroom.
