The truth behind Orphanage Voluntourism

Volunteers Needed is the first in-depth documentary focusing on international volunteers in children’s homes and orphanages.

Our mission is to create knowledge and awareness around the dangers of Orphanage Voluntourism and create legislative change to help stop child trafficking. Filming took place in South Asia and includes multi-national NGO’s, government agencies, volunteers and the ‘beneficiaries’ themselves.

A honest look at a complicated problem.

It’s currently estimated that 18,000 children are placed in orphanages and children’s homes in Nepal. Of those 18,000 only 3,000-5,000 of these children are actually orphans. Follow along as we discover how they ended up there, and how we can get them home. It is estimated over 5,000,000 children worldwide live in Orphanages and Residential care. 80% of whom have at least one living parent and could return home if not for the financial incentives of keeping them institutionalized.
